i have a 1969 chevelle small block race only, bin racing for 20 years or so always used 355 inch motors car has gone a best of 9.94 134.64 it has 5.57 gears powerglide with 1.98 low gear with brake and TCI 5500 8" converter. Just getting tierd of the small motor big rpm but not interested in a big block. Now to my question i would like to get some opinions on stoke or bore i was thinking 421 cid this would have 4.155 bore and 3.875 stroke or 412 this has 4.185 bore and 3.750 either motor would have 4340 crank and rods 14.8:1 mahle piston brodix 18deg heads and intake, roller cam and demon carb. both motors will make good power but witch is the best combo. Car is 2982lb with me in it .And yes rear gears and gear set would have to go. anyone have an opinion.

My feelings, and these are only my feelings - someone can correct me if they disagree, but big block is definitely the way to go!! I was thinking that based on everything you have laid out, and all of the setups, I think the second option is better, I always take bore size first - but that is just me!! Good luck with whatever you decide!!

There's no replacement for displacement! If this is a race only setup why not go big block. Small blocks get lost under the hood of those big A-bodies.

The 3.875 stroke will make more TQ. 4.155 bore will let you bore the block 2 more times. We did a 4.155 X 4.00 with 23 deg heads. In a 2600 lbs car on the 1/8 it went 5.69 best. This was with 1050 carb on gas and PG trans.
